Just a note to say thank you for the incredible cupcakes you guys delivered for my birthday on Tuesday. I had the worst birthday cake the weekend before, and your amazing cupcakes were exactly what I needed. It made my day. They were the most excellent cupcakes I've ever had. Thank you again!
Anatomy of a Cake
Many people ask us about cake sizes and servings, so we've created this guide to make things easy. Feel free to print it out and bring it with you to your Whipped Bakeshop cake consultation.
Tiers and Layers: A Piece of Cake
All of our layer cakes are approximately 4” high and consist of 3 layers of cake sandwiched with two layers of filling.

Icing: Swiss meringue buttercream is most often vanilla or chocolate, but some adventurous people choose delicious options like peanut butter meringue. A fondant outer layer can provide a smooth, polished look but it adds a little bit to the cost of the cake.
Cake Flavors: Popular flavors include chocolate fudge, red velvet, vanilla-buttermilk, lemon, almond pound, carrot and banana.
Filling: Our cakes are filled with our rich old-fashioned buttercream, Swiss meringue buttercream, truffle cream, or a combination of icing plus preserves or lemon curd. Delish!
This cake has 6 tiers and includes 18 layers of cake and 12 layers of filling. It stands 24 inches tall and would feed 190 guests. It's a big cake, but don't worry -- you won't be the one carrying it. In fact, we assemble cakes this large on site before your event.
Cutting the Cake
These diagrams show a top-down view of how each size cake is cut. The cutting patterns are for illustration purposes, but they give you the basic idea of how large tiers are sliced. Your caterer knows exactly how to cut the cake so that each guest gets about the same size piece. Enjoy your Whipped Bakeshop cake and let the pros do the work!
